This manual helps you to change the strictness of the spamfilter of your Maastricht University mailbox

What do you need?

  • A computer with internetconnection.
  • An active/working employee or student account of the Maastricht University with mailbox

Please consult the “Frequently Asked Questions” at the end of the manual in case you encounter problems in using the manual or the service.

Step 1: Go to the website

 

Step 2: Log in using Surf Federatie

  • Click on the icon shown next to this text.
Step 3: Confirm the institution

  • Select Maastricht University in the list and click on bevestig/confirm.
Step 4: Log in

  • Log in with your Maastricht University account.
  • Example username:
    Student: i123456
    Employee: abc.employee
Step 5: Select the strictness of the spamfilter 

  • Select the strictness of the spamfilter you want to apply and click on Submit Changes.
Step 6: Done!

  • After clicking on Submit Changes, the announcement ‘Settings updated’ will appear.
  • Your new settings are now active.
  • You can now log out by clicking on ‘log out’ in the upper right corner of the screen.

Which settings are available? The following settings are available:High: Suspicious messages will be tagged in the subject field as *S*P*A*M*. Messages with an average and high “spamscore” will be deleted automatically. These messages will NOT be delivered in your inbox. The sender will receive a notification that his/her email was not delivered to the recipient. Technical information: messages with a “spamscore” of 8 or higher will be deleted immediately, messages with a “spamscore” between 5 and 8 will be tagged as spam.

Medium: Suspicious messages will be tagged in the subject field as *S*P*A*M*. All messages with a high “spamscore” will be deleted automatically. These messages will NOT be delivered in your inbox. The sender will receive a notification that his/her email was not delivered to the recipient. Technical information: messages with a “spamscore” higher then 20 will be deleted immediately, messages with a “spamscore” between 5 and 20 will be tagged as spam.

Low: Suspicious messages will be tagged in the subject field as *S*P*A*M*. All messages will be delivered in your inbox. Technical information: all messages with a “spamscore” higher then 5 will be tagged as spam. No messages will be deleted automatically
